GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS



Terms of admission and studying:


1. Foreign candidates who are admitted on the same conditions as Polish citizens (free of charge)

The following groups of foreigners have been granted the right to apply for admission and to become students on the same terms as Polish citizens:

a) Foreigners granted a settlement permit on the territory of the Republic of Poland (former residence card)
b) Foreigners with a valid Polish Charter [Karta Polaka]
c) Foreigners granted a settlement permit on the territory of the Republic of Poland
d) Foreigners with a refugee status granted in Poland
e) Foreigners offered temporary protection on the territory of the Republic of Poland
f) Immigrant employees with the citizenship of one of the EU or EFTA (European Free Trade Association) countries – signatories of the European Economic Area Agreement, provided they are or have been previously employed in Poland and family members of such persons, provided that they reside in Poland
g) Foreigners granted a fixed term settlement permit / in connection with the circumstances referred to in the art. 53 sec. 1 clause 7, 13 and 14 of the 13 June 2003 Act on Foreigners [Ustawa o cudzoziemcach] - Dz.U. no. 234, item 1694
h) Foreigners who were granted a with a residence permit for a long term EC residence on the territory of the Republic of Poland
i) Foreigners granted with a subsidiary protection on the territory of the Republic of Poland
j) Citizens of the EU/EFTA and the family members of such citizens: Citizens of the EU or EFTA European Free Trade Association) countries – signatories of the European Economic Area Agreement or the Swiss Confederation and the family members of such citizens with a permanent settlement permit (art. 42, 43, 45 and 63 of the 14 July 2006 Act on the entry of the citizens of the EU and their family members on the territory of the Republic of Poland [O wjeździe na terytorium obywateli państw członkowskich Unii Europejskiej i członków ich rodzin], Dz. U. no. 144, item 1043 together with later amendments.). The above-mentioned persons are not entitled to maintenance grants, disability grants, accommodation allowances, meal allowances and benefits.


2. Foreign candidates who are admitted on different rules (must pay tuition)

a) Foreigners who are not mentioned in section 1 cannot be admitted on the same conditions as Polish citizens, yet they have the right to study on the basis of:
  • International treaties and the rules stated in them Armenia, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Cuba, Libya, Latvia, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Germany, Russia, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Syria, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Hungary, Vietnam, and the following, currently non-existent, countries: Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia (the SFRY), the GDR, the USSR
  • The rules stated in the Agreements between foreign subjects and the university
  • The decision of a respective Minister of Science and Higher Education or an appropriate minister mentioned in the art. 33 sec. 2
  • The decision of the Rector of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University

  • b) The above mentioned foreigners can study, as well as participate in scientific researches and development programmes:
  • as beneficiaries of Polish government scholarship
  • on a fee-paying basis
  • free of charge and without the right to scholarships
  • as beneficiaries of scholarships from their country of origin, receiving a full tuition waiver
  • c) The above mentioned foreigners are admitted:
  • on the basis of a referral from issued by
  • - the Bureau for Academic Recognition and International Exchange (if the candidates were admitted to the university without the necessity to complete a preparatory course on Polish language),
    - the head of the institution where the preparatory course was completed, who was earlier entitled by a respective Minister of Higher Education;
  • for individual programme, after they fill an admission application form and submit it to the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs through International Student Office [Biura ds. obsługi studiów i studentów zagranicznych] supplying the required documents


  • 3. Foreigners with the possibility to choose the conditions of admission and studies

    a) Citizens of the EU countries, the Federal Charter or European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries –  signatories of the European Economic Area Agreement and the family members of such citizens , who possess enough financial resources to cover the cost of living during the period of studies, have the right to study:
  • On the same conditions as Polish citizens (free of charge)
  •  Without taking into account of the conditions of admission applicable to Polish citizens on the basis of:
  • - International treaties and the rules stated in them
    - The rules stated in the Agreements between foreign subjects and the university
    - The decision of a respective Minister of Higher Education or an appropriate minister mentioned in the art. 33 sec. 2;
    - The decision of the Rector of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University
    b) Foreigners with a valid Polish Charter [Karta Polaka] have the right to study:
  • on the same conditions as Polish citizens (free of charge)
  • without taking into account the conditions of admission applicable to Polish citizens.
